Father And Son by Joel Parkes

These two meet in a ruptured and repaired space, with evidence of repair in the smaller work as well. But which piece is whom, and what does that suggest. the perception of perfection, and the intelligence gleaming, but perhaps knowledge is not the highest ideal, nor the greatest gift.

These pieces take place within the family setting, and the nodal constructs, and objects of mass which hold us in our position in the great galaxy of humanity. Each work takes place within a ‘plane’ of existence, a context in which these players meet. The stage is set for two characters and their location speaks of the relations between them in the Artists family. The choice of materials and textures, alluding to the nature of the relationships and their effect upon each other. Where attrition becomes smooth, and perfection mirrors the cracked surface of the other, we begin to see our own lives reflected in the poetry and the rendering of the materials, and the placement of the characters.
